Before going through the printing process, every book is entrusted to an editor. Essentially, any piece of writing intended to be seen and published requires editing. The editor reviews the book according to the rules of writing and editing, while preserving the author’s style. They edit the text for content, punctuation, spelling, coherence, and more. The editor examines the text for disjointed content, grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, typos, repetition, redundancy, and awkward sentences or phrases, and makes improvements wherever possible.
It’s worth noting that throughout the editing process, the editor stays in contact with the author, correcting ambiguous sentences and phrases with their help and informing them of any changes.
There are various types of editing, with two of the most important being formal (technical) editing and content (specialized) editing.
